Jasper - adopted!

Jasper came from IOW shelter.  He had the sniffles which blew up into a full blown respiratory condition requiring antibiotics.  Another foster took this poor sick boy to the vet and then we decided it would be best for him to foster him.  The sweetest flame point siamese.  Very very friendly even though he was not feeling his best.  After he has recovered he will be put up for adoption at Petsmart.   I think he will get adopted very quickly.

Twix - adopted March 30, 2013

Twix is an 8 month old grey female with white chest shorthaired female.  She was rescued from the Shelter and spayed by IOWHS.  She is very sensitive and a little insecure but she loves attention.  She hid in the garage for 5 days and finally got trapped.  Now she loves attention.

March 28 - Twix and I had a wonderful "bonding" time this morning. She doesn't eat much and still likes to hide and has to be "coaxed" out from under the wardrobe. I'm tired of "coaxing" her out. Once out she is friendly as can be but she doesn't come out willingly on her own in a timely fashion. I did give her some special Fancy Feast to motivate her after she was out from under there and she decided she likes it better than her kitten chow. She'll only get ProPlan kitten once she is up at Petsmart but she needs a little more socializing and that took a priority. She sure follows that food around and loves being petted. She can purr up a storm when she is happy. She had her dose of Advantage this morning so she is already to go up there and she'll go up there on Saturday when I take Grayson and Marco up to Petsmart with me. Maybe it will be Grayson's lucky day. Both Marco and Grayson are FIV+.

March 28 pm - a little more willing to come out on her own tonight.  I did block the back of the Wardrobe so she can't go ALL the way to the back making my "coaxing" job easier.  She got some more FF tonight - finished the can.  I slept in the cat room last night but she didn't sleep with me...  boo hoo.  She didn't try to wake me up.  Pepper meeowing outside the door did.  Her munching on food woke me up.

March 29 - she went to Petsmart cage

March 30 - she was adopted!!!!  a wonderful family - with 5 kids - the youngest is two but did really well with the cat.  Mom is a stay at home home and fell in love with Twix.  Her husband is deployed but fortunately she reached him via text and he said YES.  He had wanted declawed but let her chose and no Twix will not be declawed.  She will have a friend in the house, a cat friendly dog.  She's young enough I'm sure she will adjust.

Tuxie, Inky and Missy - adopted

Introduction

Introduction

Hello, my name is Carol.  This is my blog regarding cats and kittens.  I am trying to find forever homes for them for the Isle of Wight Humane Society but first I'd like to introduce you to my own cat.

Meet my Pepper.  He is almost 8 years though he might be about 6 in this picture.  He hasn't been out in about 2 or more months because he had knee surgery.  He has recovered fully and I still haven't let him back out but he still asks.  He still hopes.  He loves being outside but I'd rather have him inside.  Less risk of injury, disease, etc.

I have had a foster for over a year named Grayson.  He is the sweetest boy.  He is now about 4 years old.  He lived with the ferals in the neighborhood but was probably abandoned.  He was TNR'ed (Trap Neuter Return) but he was so friendly that I decided he needed a home.  I therefore had him tested for FIV and Feline Leukemia.  Unfortunately he tested positive for FIV and now I can't find a home for him.  He is sweet, friendly, healthy and can live a normal healthy life.  He loves to sit on a lap but still has a lot of kitten in him.  He would love you even more than you love him.    He's put on some weight since he lives in a cage most of the time although he comes out at least 2x a day and serves as the ambassador to the ferals that are being TNRed or the kittens and cats I am fostering. I think an ideal home could be a single who wants a companion.  An elderly person perhaps who wants a lap kitty.

Grayson! - adopted June 16, 2013!!!

June 2013 - one of his favorite spots.
Another favorite spot where he can look out the window and be entertained by the other feral cats in the neighborhood or the birds.  I'm sure he wishes he could be out there but with his FIV+ status he must stay inside

Another favorite spot - a lap

A not so favorite spot but he is purring
he may be 3 1/2 yrs+ but he loves to play
Did I mentioned he likes laps - doesn't matter the size

Aug 8, 2011 - before testing

Grayson was from my feral colony. I don't know if he was abandoned or born here. I think he was just abandoned. He was neutered under a Petsmart Charities Grant in Newport News which did not test for FIV and FLV. He was so sweet with people that I decided he needed a forever home. He was tested at that point and discovered to be FIV+. That was in the latter part of 2011.

I have been trying to find a home for him ever since. He goes up to Petsmart every time I go up there and gets lots of attention which he loves. It makes his adventure up there worth it. He lives in my garage. Most of the time he is in a cage but many days I will give him free run of the garage. He has his favorite spots.

He is very playful for being 3 1/2 going on 4 yr old. Is healthy and easy going. Loves sitting on laps and wants one he can sit on forever that isn't mine. I hope he finds a forever home soon. Before he was neutered he would get in the face of other cats especially males. He now gets along with everyone. I don't leave him out unsupervised with any of my fosters and run interference with the other cats. He does great with female cats and with males he still likes to dominate but leaves them alone if they don't act scared or intimidated by them. To minimize risk he should go to a home where he is the only one or the other cats are also FIV+.  FIV is very hard transmit between cats.  See the following link for more FIV Information

Someone please adopt him and give him a loving home.

Mom and Kittens available late April 2013

This Momma was trapped at a feral colony in IOW and has 3 kittens.  They came to me at 1 week old and have moved to another foster home at two weeks old.  Five more weeks and they will be old enough to go to forever homes.  The kittens are grey and white chest, black with white feet and one close to solid black.  Mom was very protective of her babies but did a really good job of taking care of them in the cage.  My first experience fostering really young kittens.  Kitten season has started so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you haven't spayed or neutered your cat take do it!!!!  If you see ferals in your neighborhood without ear tip then get some help with Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) or if you are feeding cats that are not yours then get help and get them TNR'ed.

Operation Cat Snip is a good contact for help.

PETA has a low cost spay/neuter program with Mobile Clinics regularly on the Peninsula and the southside and has a feral package which includes alteration/ear tip/rabies/testing for $45

Napoleon and Fluffy - adopted March 2013

Fluffy is an adult neutered male surrendered by a gal who had too many cats. Fluffy now Gimli showed up on her property. Her attempts to find the owners were futile so she surrendered him to the IOWHS for us to find him a home.  She continued to visit Fluffy up at Petsmart encouraging visitors to adopt him and a good family adopted him.

Napoleon is a mature male neutered cat surrendered because his owner died in February. He is at least 5 years old - probably 6 or 7. He was a favorite up at Petsmart. Never heard any complaints. A mature dignified guy who liked being with people. Very attentive and sensitive.  Getting him from the apartment was a challenge but he warmed up right away to me.  He had a cat friend in the apartment who someone adopted right away from the gal responsible for handling the estate and belongings of her friend that had died unexpectedly.  The day before Napoleon's 3 weeks at Petsmart ended, he was adopted.  I'm so glad he didn't need to come back to me to foster for another three weeks before he could go up to Petsmart again.
