Charlie

10/22/2015
Charlie - a female 4-5 months feral at this time
Charlie is visited by Nia
Charlie was trapped at approximately 5 months in Hampton.  She has one stint at Petsmart where she did quite well.  Lots of questions but noone serious.

Oct 2015 - We are hoping that she will tame down so that she can be adopted.  She's the white one with spots.  Nia is a 9-10 week old calico rescued from the median near Wendy's on Jefferson near Patrick Henry mall.  Nia was a hissy mess initially but within 24 hrs was already asking for love and attention.  What a difference age makes in socializing!

Everdeen decided to go for a free meal and climed the cage and joined Charlie.
Maybe these other cats - Everdeen, Finnick and Nia will have a favorable influence on Charlie

Socks

Socks is a little tuxedo kitten that D. Lee trapped along with an adult.  I'm guessing 8 or 9 weeks old.  Never hissed and after just a couple of days he is coming for attention and loving petting.  Not sure about being picked up but I heard his first purr (7/22) while holding.  Such a cutie and he'll be a sweet addition to someone's home.

The King and I - Adopt now

Two Siamese arrived while I was gone.  Leslie's fosters Yul Brenner and Deborah Kerr but I call them King of Siam and Teacha  some of the time.  They have come a long way.

DK is a seal-point, Yul is a Lynx point.  They are a lot of fun and very sweet.  Still need work but have come a long way.  Their reaction when they don't you is hiss but they respond quickly to being petted.

July 21 - both had their surgery and their rabies shot.  They are doing very well on July 22.

Finnick and Everdeen

Finnick
Finnick, Everdeen and Katniss were born June 20, 2015 approximately.  Katniss is happy in her new home.
Everdeen

The three Hunger Game kitties were born outside to a stray Mom named Patches.  She tested positive for FIV and the babies which also were tested positive at a young ages as they were carrying Mom's antibodies.  They were retested at at least 4 months of old and upon being tested again and being negative were adopted.  Katniss was adopted first.

Finnick and Everdeen were adopted together however were abandoned outside in January 2016.  They were rescued again by IOWHS and after a period of getting adjusted again have been adopted again together. The new houshold has 2 pekinese.  This is at least temporary until the actual adopter moves into a pet friendly residence.

Finnick is a super lover and will be on your lap, in your face and wherever you are.  He's very affectionate and friendly.

March 20 - 24 panacure as they have loose stools.

Oct 27, 2015 - F&E were altered at No More Chasin Tails spay/neuter clinic (4 months and 1 week old)

Fluff

Fluff on spring break
Fluff is one of 2 long-haired kittens that were trapped in Newport News in a very difficult location.  Her sister is Puff.  Their Mom has eluded capture for a long time and these are not the first kittens from there.

The kittens were TN'ed and estimated to be 2 months old.  Two little girls.  Lots of petting and holding.

Feb 26 - from the adopter... she has met my dog and cat and she did so well! Absolutely no issues- I'm so proud of her!
A present from Grandma - Fluff is officially spoiled!

Feb 21 - note from Adopter  "My mom visited to meet the new baby today and she brought this present! She loves it!! "

Feb 13 - Fluff found her forever home.

Jan 20 - kittens delivered to my garage.  Temperature is tolerable since there is some local heat near the cages.

Fluff - in the early days before socializing
Jan 19 - kept at another volunteers home - weather awfully cold and concern about keeping them warm after surgery

Jan 18 - surgery at No More Chasin Tails - They estimated at 2 months.  Until look at teeth hard to estimate.  They could be older and just underweight.  Kept overnight.

Puff

Puff
Puff is one of a pair of sisters.  Fluff and Puff are two long haired black kittens.  They were trapped in Newport News in a very difficult location.  Their Mom has eluded capture for a long time and these are not the first kittens from there.

The kittens were TN'ed and estimated to be 2 months old.  Two little girls.  Lots of petting and holding.

Feb 26, 2015  Puff is being fostered elsewhere as she has needed drops every 8 hours for an eye and someone else volunteered.  She is ready to go and will be at the PETCO Suffolk Grand opening on Feb 26, 2016.

Feb15 - Puff woke me up meeowing and didn't want to be confined and I let her out in the house under supervision.  She got so much exercise she ended up collapsing for a very long nap.

Feb 13 - Fluff found her forever home.  We finished Puff's drops on Feb 14 and she went to Petsmart for the Adoptathon.  She behaved very well but after a couple of hours was exhausted and collapsed.  There was aa lot of interest but after much consideration and thought she didn't get adopted.  Both will get rabies vaccine either Thurs or Monday and then Puff will then be available for adoption.

Puff's eye looks so much better

Round and round it goes

Sasha

Love me - take me home with you
I just love to be loved!
I do like to be on laps but sometimes I don't
want to be held
Sasha is a very sweet girl.  She was originally trapped as a feral but really wasn't.  She was an outdoor cat with her son and were surrendered because the owner had an elderly diabetic cat so she couldn't live inside.

Sasha is a conversationalist and wants attention.  She is a major lap cat.  She seems to get along with dogs and cats.
  Sasha

Feb 14, 2016 - Sasha became a valentine's day present for a very lucky family
2/22/15 Blog of Sasha and Charlie shows some of early experience

Bloxie - ADOPTED!

Bloxie is a sweet girl approximately 5 months old now - born approximately Aug 17, 2015.  She is a very sweet tuxedo.  A little shy and hisses when she's stressed.  She'll let you know what she thinks.  She is actually Mary's foster but I have the fun of having her for her break from Petsmart.  She has improved since I've had her.  If you really startle her she might hiss in response but she loves to play and I'm enjoying watching her antics.

Her 3 littermates have been adopted and she is the last one.  She's petite and playful.  She's so cute.  There was some interest in her at Petsmart until she hissed.  That's just her way of talking.
I am very happy on this chair.
Thanks Pepper for letting me lie in
one of your favorite spots

Feb 13, 2015 - She got her furrever home.  Just after I called Mary to see if she had gotten calls - which she said no. and my thoughts that maybe it was a hint - that she would become my second cat, Mary got a call and adopted her out.  It wasn't even 15 minutes.

Jan 28 - She has been having house privileges while I'm here.  She came to bed with me last night for the 2nd time and for a time I actually had 2 on the bed with me - Pepper and Bloxie.   I may have accidentally kicked her off since she picked the bottom of the bed.  Pepper was nearer my side.
She loves to have stomach petted.

Jan 22 - Hot chocolate, popcorn and watching Federer (recorded last night) from the Aussie open while Bloxie (Mary Smola Connell's foster) is running around the living room. She's tearing back and forth. Definitely getting her beans out and running around insane and definitely not hiding. Pepper went upstairs to get out of her way.  She ran upstairs now. No hissing. Now she's running up and down the stairs. I guess you found something to play with - that shouldn't be hard.  Mary said she had 3 brothers who played very rough with her.  Bloxie startles so quickly when I make kissy noises. But she's getting better about it. Now she's rolling on carpet in middle of living room. Pepper probably won't play with her. She's fine entertaining herself.  She finally got hungry enough to go back in her cage to eat. I don't want Pepper eating her food. Now that she has eaten she is hyper in the cage found a mouse to play with. Sees her reflection in a mirror - is that I kitty I can play with?  Now she's back out.  She was content to be on my lap for a while but then wanted down.  I was starting to let go of her and she hissed at me which resulted in me forcing her to stay a little longer.

Twinkle toe

Jul 14, 2015
Twinkle Toe is a semi-feral, semi socialized female cat approximately a year old.  She was supposed to be TNRed but could not be spayed back in July because she had a URI (upper respiratory infection).

This gave us time to work with her and she really isn't feral any more however she is also not to the point of being adoptable either.  She'll accept petting on her terms but picking up?  Nope.

NMCT clinic aged her at a year - I was thinking 5-6 months, Brenda thinks more like 8 months.  She's not where I'd like her to be socially but Debbie is coming regularly and working with her.  I pressed her buttons yesterday (July?) by trying to pull her to me to pick her up and she was panic city trying to get away.  I can pet her.  She'll roll on her back to have belly rubs but she doesn't come to the front of the cage.  I'd like to give her garage privileges but I can't trust her yet to come back to me and think she'll just hide.

January 2016 - she and Charlie have free range in the garage.  She's been in my garage how long?  six months.

July 26 had a walk-a-bout in the garage today.  She hadn't been out of the cage before and sure seemed to enjoy it and hopped back into her cage 3 hours later.  Beauty didn't like the fact that TT was out of the cage but Beauty will get over it.  Still need to get to the point that we can pick up TT

July 14, 2015 when I first got her.

Fluff and Puff

Puff

Jan 22 - They had their dose of "human" this morning.  I petted and picked up both - one at a time.  Fluff is making quicker progress.  Kittens either freeze when their scared or they try to run away.  Fluff is the former and Puff is the latter.  They look a lot alike so they must remain separated.  If I could tell them apart I might put them together so that they could keep each other warmer at night and separate for the day to work with them.  Feral kittens socialize faster when they are separated thus they are separated.  With several folks coming by to love and handle them I'm hoping that in 2 months they'll be socialized and be able to put up for adoption.

Jan 20 - kittens delivered to my garage.  Temperature is tolerable since there is some local heat near the cages.

Mom still eludes capture.  My suggestions for trapping.

a)  noone else can feed and there needs to be help from local neighbors to make sure they aren't fed.  Signs need to be posted to keep people from feeding and know that trapping is in progress.   As long as someone else is feeding them she will never be trapped.
b)  leave traps locked open and the cats only fed in the traps for several days.  If they want to eat they need to go in trap.  How many cats are there?  I know there is the Mom but are there any other cats there that have already been TNRed.  Complete inventory of what cats are there and enough traps to get everyone.  I would prefer also doing drop trap.  They have to eat in normal trap or under a drop trap whether or not you actually catch them
c)  set the normal traps after several days

It would help to know details of where they are actually living and finding shelter.  If she gets pregnant again and has another litter it would be best to know where she actually is keeping them and use them as bait to get her but putting them in a carrier backed up to a trap.
